The Great Blue Heron Festival, July 5/6, 2008 Sherman, NY
Review submitted by: Nick S.

"
My first festival of this kind ever. Admittedly, I came into the festival with some preconceived notions of what to expect, but nothing could prepare for what I was about to hear when Entrain took the stage. The live presence of the band is something you can't even describe, with fresh infections rhythms, the punchy 'salt-and-pepper' brass line, the unbelievable vocal talent, and drums like I've never heard played before. Meshing perfectly with the vibe of the festival itself, Entrain's music promoted a message of peace and community. Their 'Letter to the World' seemed to influence everyone at the festival to be a part of the experience. I highly recommend making a pilgrimage to your nearest Entrain performance, and definitely not to miss the Blue Heron festival next year, as I'm sure the positive response will bring them back for more."

ClearWater Festival, 6/21/08 Croton-On-Hudson, NY
Review submitted by: Brian Petersen

"As a drummer, and as a human being, I always have a great time at your shows. I'm a bit of a crusty old man at this point, but I float along in a peaceful, happy place for weeks after catching your vibe. Your sets at Clearwater were way too short, but even in such a 'small' show, you got the message of love and rhythm across. I always love looking around the crowd and seeing people that are catching you for the first time. Watching their faces light up and their bodies start moving is a treat! You all have such a great attitude about music and life and it comes through in every song. Thanks for sharing this with us!!!"

Smoky Hill River Festival, June 16, 2008 Salina, Kansas
Review submitted by: Chris Rains

"Had the opportunity to catch Entrain at the Smoky Hill River Festival. Totally blew my doors! I can't imagine that anyone could not like this band. Not a weak player in the crew. The tunage was excellent and the overall entertainment level was tremendous. As much fun to watch as to hear. Well done fellas!!"

Havana's, 9/24/04 New Hope, PA
Review submitted by: Philly Fan

"Outrageously great show - the band is tighter, more vibrant, more exciting than ever! When we found out Entrain was coming to the Philly area, we flew in a family member from four states away to stay with our special needs child so we could go to the show. And it was SO definitely worth the plane ticket - that joint was jumpin' - Tom was so on fire, he literally broke through the snare drum. Come back SOON, guys! We'll import more babysitting talent so we can join you!!!!"

"Unbelievable great show! First time seeing them, you cannot stay in your seat without moving to the beat ! Hope to see them back next year ! Bought a CD & listen to it at the office to raise morale. "

Asylum, March 22, 02 Portland, ME
Review submitted by: Jayson Cornish

"On Friday, March 22 I saw perhaps the best live band I have ever seen.
Entrain is a criminally unknown band from Marthas Vinyard, Massachusets. In the past they have backed Bob Weir and they are Bo Diddleys backing band when he plays in New England.

The evening started with Portlands Greg Goodwill Band. Though he is a talented singer-songwriter/guitarist, Goodwill seemed to have a hard time connecting with the audience until the last five songs of his set.

Entrain hit the stage at around 10:00 with all six members playing assorted percussion on a rousing rendition of Mo'Drums from their second disk "Can You Dig It?" Before the last beat could fade out each band member went to his respective instrument and went into the Grateful Dead-like
"River Run."

The band played for nearly an hour and a half without a break. At one point saxophone player Klem Klimek went out into the audience and took a solo from the floor.
Musically the band flowed seamlessley from Funk, to Ska, to African, to Afro-Cuban, to Zydeco, to Folk Rock. All with a groove so infectous that you had no choice but to dance.

During the intermission I got to talk to Trombonist/Percussionist Sam Holstock. He informed me that Guitarist/Vocalist Chad Hollister and
Keyboardist/Guitarist/Vocalist Alex Howland had joined the band two weeks earlier. This is particularly amazing concidering how tight the band was. The band is rounded out by Tom Major on drums and Lenny "LB" Bradford.

An Entrain show is a beautiful, tribal, positive, uplifting experience that shouldn't be missed.

Entrain
Live Volume 2: Right Away People
Dolphin Safe

The Martha’s Vineyard jammers get New Orleans-funky on their first new album in nearly three years. The rhythmic energy that turns every Entrain show into a dance-athon is a soulful strut here, reminiscent of the Neville Brothers and well worth the wait for the Entrain cult. Download: ‘‘House on the Hill.” "

Rallopalooza, August 19, 2007 Fair Haven, NJ
Review submitted by: Meredith Johnsen

"You were probably the best live band I have ever heard. No one seemed to mind that it was pouring rain and that we were all drenched and dancing without a care, like it was a bright sunny day. I have been a fan, but now I am absolutely hooked on your music and so impressed with the individual talent and your "entrainment." Love the Live Vol.2 "Right Away People" and I am officially entranced by Entrain. "

local cable station, no idea wish I knew
Review submitted by: El Fraser

"Wow I love the band. As a former booking agent and jazz PR person I can say you've got it. I could not find out the name of the band and stayed up through to the final music, putting down my book - trying to write down (over the roar of the crows) the names of the band members. Spending time in New Orleans/1990 era Jazz & Heritage Festivals the band reminds me of a combination of my lodestar musician friend's band - Dave Falciani's D'Funk Club in Philadelphia, & the Neville Brothers, & with tunes having flavors from Paul Simon's "Graceland" LP. You've got me - I'm watching now. Hot hot hot. Thanks guys."

Green Parrot Key West, March 2008 Key West, FL
Review submitted by: Dan Hogberg

"What a set of shows!! The current line-up shines in so many ways....although I must admit, I've never heard a line-up I didn't love. There was an incredible energy level at each show....this band actually looks like it is having fun on stage...even the 5:30 pm soundchecks had the place in a tizzy. I'm glad the gigs are over because I need to get some sleep! Thanks guys for taking your music to the highest possible level. Don't miss the opportunity to see this band."

Kent Stage, April 10, 2008 Kent, Ohio

"Caught the show at the Kent Stage last night and it was AWESOME! The crowd was small but you could tell people were enjoying themselves. I took someone who has never heard your music and he is now a big fan. Thanks!!"

"Let me just say that the Grateful Dread thing was sweet! Never heard of you guys before this show but my mind was blown! As you could observe the Kent scene has some waking up to do BUT the people who did make it out were getting down."

Mount Snow Brewers Festival, Sept. 2, 2007 West Dover, MA
Review submitted by: Rick

"My first time seeing Entrain and was WOWed! The parts where everyone plays percussion is incredibly unique and I loved it! Great show and everyone was entertained. Good music and songs. I've seen lots of live bands these past few years and few can compare to the energy/sound of Entrain."

H.O.B. , new Year's Eve Cambridge
Review submitted by: Dave Bourque

" Could not have had a better time welcoming in 2003, than rocking with Entrain at the House of Blues in Cambridge. An extraordinary time was had by all in the packed House.
The band was definitely up for the occasion. We were Dancin' in the Light with Mother Street and Uncle Jolly, Sad Joe Zydeco, and about 900 of us from the Mexican Bus including Krutch. The Booty rolled and rolled. You should have heard That Long Snake Moan.
Keep on rockin' Marty, Klem L.B., howlin' Alex. Sam and T.M."

McEvoy Theater - New Hampton School, 1/17/03 New Hampton, NH
Review submitted by: Curtis

"Great show, with some awesome crowd energy. By the end of the night everyone was up dancing in the light. However with Klem slowly working his way out onto the odd barricade laying between the band and the fans, it would be hard not get up and dance right along with Sam jumpin' and jivin' with his trombone at center stage. My person favorite was the bass/ bongo/ drum jam which interrupted Dancin' in the Light. In the middle of the show I heard someone yelling to his friend, "This is the best band I have ever seen." Can't wait to see you all again real soon, take care. "

Jazz Aspen Festival, 9/2/02 Aspen, Colorado
Review submitted by: Dan Willging

"Reprinted by permission from the Feb issue of Dirty Linen

It may have been thought that PGF's intensity couldn't be matched, but Massachusetts' Entrain did just that. A drum band with poppy world tunes, the group cycled through timbales and congas, pounding out rhythms like crazed lunatics. Visually, Entrain was entertaining beyond belief as it poured on the juice and rocked a scene of thrustin' asses. Roaring receptions only fueled a raging fire that evaporated any stream of water attempting to douse it. At one point members attempted to get serious, but luckily it didn't last long. "Let's do some more music, guys," quipped saxophonist Klem Klimek. "Our political commentary stinks." He was right. On a music-deluged weekend such as this, who needs it?

"I attended all six performances during the recording of Rise Up Volume 2!!

The new songs by the guys are rockn'. Not only did I get to see and hear some of the most tallented musicians do what they do best, I saw an album unfold. From the photo's of the band the first couple of weeks to some serious recording equipment for the last show. These guys did it right!!! No corners cut recording this one. This new live album is a must get for anyone!!!

Come back to Fairhaven soon!! Until then I'll travel the miles to see them. Thank you Sammy, Tom, Alex, LB and Klem. Nice job on the sound Scott!! Krutch, you add a nice sound to Mexican Bus and the band. Keep it up!!!!

Thank you from,

The Stone Church, 12/9/06 Newmarket, NH
Review submitted by: Jaie

"Entrain rocks my world!! This was the 3rd Entrain concert I have been to, and I have such a wonderful time that I wish I could go to one every week! I love the rhythms, drum beats, the energy and seeing the interactions between the band members while they are playing. They have fun and it's infectious! I was right up there in front of the stage. I could have reached up and played the keyboards with alex, and had to move out of the way of Sam's trombone! It was awesome! You guys rock and I hope to go to many, many more shows in this area!! "

Montigny Function - among several others, 9/11/04 New Bedford, MA
Review submitted by: Susan Ward

"All I can say is that they are truly extremely talented. The energy they pour out to the audience is incredible. I am on my feet the whole night and only stop when they take their break. Alex, Tom, Sam, Len, Klem - it is an inspiration to watch you guys perform. My husband and I, although we don't get out very often, try our best to never miss the opportunity to see you. We will be moving away to Missouri in June and one of the things I thought of was how can we leave Entrain - maybe you could get some gigs out that way. Sue"

I told some friends of mine about this great band and I took them to Portsmouth NH. lastnight and saw Entrain again. They loved the show so much they too bought a few CD's and want to see them again. The show rocked, and as usual was so full of energy. You cant help but to get a groove on when you experience Entrain Live. Great show guys!!!!!"

Feast of the Blessed Sacrement, 08/04/2006 New Bedford, MA
Review submitted by: Denis

"This is the venue that Entrain always seems to sound the best. Part of it may be they seem to having a lot of fun. Friday night at the feast is always a big crowd that is ready to dance and party and with Entrain playing the party is complete.

This has to be about 4 - 5 years that Entrain has been at the feast and it always is a good match. Great food, great Madeira Wine (it was awesome to see the entire band salute the crowd this year with their own Madeira wine toast - a highlight of the show) and a great band.

And, oh yeah, the music was a great blend of all their tunes, past and present. The songs done on their new cd complemented the more popular old ones that fans like to hear.

Hoping the tradition continues next year. "

The Grog, 1/27/07 Newburyport Mass

Musikfest - Bethlehem, PA, 8/4/2003 Bethlehem, PA
Review submitted by: Mark

"I've been listening do these guys for years but never caught them in the NY/NJ area. This time, I left work early, packed the wife 'n kids, drove between downpours, and had a great time at the Americaplatz.

Two songs into the set and the crowd started to grow, feet were moving, sweat was pouring, and a great time was had by all. Ninety minutes later a very appreciative audience gave you guys a well-deserved standing-o. It looked like the merchandise tent was active. I hope so. This band is so talented and creative that it deserves to keep going. It's the only way to fight back against America's pathetic corporate radio.

I'm kicking myself for not seeing this band earlier. It's August-27 and the kids are still singing and looking forward to next time. . . . and there will be a next time."

"As a long time fan and MV resident from 90-96 I spent many night at AC in 94-95
with the original line up inc. Jud and Brian.
The new guys in danbury were awsome!
Tom and Sam classic performances. If you ever dreamed of playing the drum Tom major is a guy you have to see live at least once
if you have any passion for the skins you will be a long time fan.
I had a great time dancing to the old and new tunes in my black dog tea shirt.
Soooooo now you know who sent in theis review.
Keep playing last knight was a gas!

Sit n' Bull, 10/18/01 Maynard Ma.
Review submitted by: Sue O.

"The Noise Issue #117
ENTRAIN Sittin? Bull Pub 10/18/01
Just how many people can you fit into one room? You take a cross-section
of bikers, hippies, rich yuppies, and starving chicks with cowboy hats, and you have the fans of Entrain. You take the world's sexiest drummer, some old guy, and the Backstreet Boys and you have the band Entrain. This gives new meaning to appealing to the masses??and cramping them all into one hot, smelly room. I must say once the music starts, it's a show unlike any other. With touches of
ska, funk, reggae, and African rhythms, they can truly be classified as world music. Even the rotating percussionists provide us with the visual that it's all one small revolving world. Different people coming together, enjoying the music. That's what it's all about. It's a feast for the senses.
The good vibes and driving beat are putting me in the mood. Or maybe it's that drummer. Next time I'll bring a date. This experience should be shared.

Sakonnet R&B Festival , August 10, 2003 Sakonnet R.I.
Review submitted by: David Stein

"I went to see to Roomful of Blues and came away loving the music of Entrain. I came down to Rhode Island from Ottawa, Canada and was aware of this great little music festival by checking it out on the Roomful of Blues website. Little did I know I would encounter the musical tornado called Entrain. In a world filled with cookie cutter bands, Entrain is refresshing breath of air. The percussion was awesome, but the vocals and musicianship and stage presence of this multi-talented group were top-notch too. As a musician who has seen a lot of bands over the years, I was really impressed with the diversity and originality of their well-crafted songs.

I became an instant fan and have promoted the band to play at the Cisco Bluesfest this coming summer 2004 up here in Ottawa.

If you are in the area and you see a listing for Entrain playing live at a local venue, go catch a great live band.

David Stein (former music publisher)"

Review submitted by: Kristen

"Rockin you guys. The most fun was having so many people who knew the tunes in the audience jammin and dancing too. Mother Street and Dancin weren't the only songs that rocked the crowd (but they sure did too!). People were in to it from the front all the way to the back of the bar. Keep kickin!"

Jazz Aspen Festival , Labor Day Weekend 2002 Aspen, CO
Review submitted by: Georgina Levey

"It is the last day of 2003 and I am sitting at home trying to check off some extra "to do" items before the year comes to a close. I look through my CD collection to see what will motivate me and the obvious choice is "Rise Up," the CD that I picked up at the best live performance I have ever seen at the Jazz Aspen Festival on Labor Day 2002. I say this having seen the likes of Bob Dylan and Willie Nelson at the same festival. Don't get me wrong- those guys are great but for this self-proclaimed groover and shaker, their performances didn't even come close to Entrain's amazing energy and style. As you can tell, the show that I saw nearly a year and a half ago still sticks with me. Let me know when the band wants or plans to return to the Rocky Mountains again- I will be waiting!"

New Hampton School, 1/17/03 New Hampton School, NH
Review submitted by: D.W. Hamel

"Groove, smiles and purcussion-driven dancing from even the most unwilling at this all age event. This fun, good-hearted, talented and unique band is waiting for you to find out about it. You'll kick yourself for not discovering it earlier. A bit of advice for your 1st show....Get extra sleep prior to the show--your sleep and thought patterns will be controlled by Entrain for the next 3 (and counting) months. Enjoy!!"

"This is for all who did not make it to the greyhound benefit thursday night. What you missed was a show for the ages!

The mix of new and old players made for a fiery show the likes of which I have not seen in some time.

Transitions from song to song flowed effortlessly, an incredible thing considering the dynamics of all those players on one stage.

Coming from a fan who remembers the days of Johnny Cruz, it was great to see Rob, Judd and Brian back on stage with the band. I don't mean this to diminish the power of the current lineup, I just have some special memories of those early days. (anyone remember the Ocean's Beat shows?)

The obvious highlight of the evening was Rise Up, with all members cramming onto the Harper's stage, whipping the crowd even higher than they had been all night.

It is quite apparent to me that Entrain keeps soldiering on, no matter what the lineup. This is a band that everyone must see live, especially with this evening's revolving cast of players. You will not be disappointed!"

Brookside, October 10, 2004 Amenia, NY
Review submitted by: Richard

"This was my second Entrain concert and I was psyched. They did not let me down: they were tight, high energy, even better than the first time I saw them this past summer in Kent, Connecticut.

The room was perfect for a band like this: small enough so they filled it with sound and energy but big enough for dancing.

And fill it they did: their energy is contagious and it feeds the audience who, once dancing, feed them. This kind of self-stoking thing continued all night and they did three extra songs.

This band has plenty of skill and lots of original music but they don't take themselves too seriously which is refreshing.

Tom Major, the drumset drummer and leader of the group smiles both to himself and to members of the group who have just soloed or done something outstanding and this happens often. It's great to see a band who enjoys playing music and enjoys playing it togehter and this makes them even better because that energy spills over into the audience.

All of the drum solos, duets, call-answers were terrific and well paced to get everyone revved up. Sam did his great djembe solo in Rise up, Tom's drumming is superb in every song and his 3-2 bodiddly is as good as it gets, Alex was fantastic on the timbales and like Paul Simon's groups, when folks aren't playing their main instruments they fill on hand percussion.

Entrain has just enough extra drumming to make things interesting and make them unusual but not so much they're all about drumming.

They played a nice, long set, never stopped, and even took requests.

I have mixed feelings: I want this group to break through to more national and international recognition - they clearly deserve it, but once they do the days of seeing them in smaller settings with a $15 cover will be over.

Looking forward to more Entrain on CD and live."

"Your show was truly inspiring and I really enjoyed it. Thanks to my Brother Bill who had been relentless in getting me to one of Entrain's shows - I caved in and will forever remember the grand time we had there.

This band is nothing short of wonderful and if you get the chance to catch one of their shows - DO IT!

I just hope that they come west one of these days so that I can catch another of their shows. How about it guys? - any interest in Kansas City or somewhere close?

Keep up the great music and we will definately catch up to you at another date on the east coast.

Thanks for such a wonderful show and an excellent evening.

"I haven't seen Entrain in about a year and I've waited all winter to see them again. Their show is spectacular and they get the crowd going. I got some great shots of them jamming on their instruments. Alex has an incredible voice as he is talented in so many ways in music. His smile alone will get people in the spirit of their music and excitement. I advise anyone who has not seen Entrain to go see them as you will fall in love with the originality and passion that these group of men have put into their music. RISE UP!"

"On a beautiful spring afternoon We were graced by the members of Entrain once again. This sleepy little town got rocked and might never be the same. Those of us who have seen them many times couldn't wait, those who haven't were dancing with us. Mo drums,Rise up, River Run,Mother Street and even a few songs I dont know the names of, all were awsome. If you have not seen them don't wait,if you have the chance to see them in a small venue, do it. Klem and Sam, the cooler is always under the table, next to the bus, Margerita's are always at 4,well..maybe 2:30

Kent Fairgrounds, July 3rd, 2004 Kent, Connecticut
Review submitted by: Richard

"Entrain has great music, energy, affect, the works. Just the right mix of drums and everything else.

I've rarely found a band that can keep people dancing as well as Entrain. Alex and the rest of the band did a great job of connecting with the audience.

Great mix of musical styles and nothing slowed down enough for the crowd dancing in front of the stage to diminish; it just got bigger and bigger as the evening went on until most people were on their feet.

I've never considered the possibility of being a band groupie but these guys have made me consider it with one concert."

"One of the most lively shows I have been to in a while. My first time seeing you guys LIVE and it was worth every penny! I will definately be seeing you again. One of the best parts about the concert is the DRUMS! When you guys play the drums together I can't keep still! Thanks for a GREAT night. :)"
